One of the big challenges in retail is the optimization of the processes and the related costs. One of the major elements is the checkout. By increasing the throughput and reducing the related costs, especially the costs of the human resources, the checkout processes are directly influencing the profit of the retailer. The modern POS (store) solutions open up new opportunities for the retailer to automate and extend checkout processes.


Checkout concepts

Two major areas of automation can be identified:

  • Self service
  • Cash management

In the area of self-service, some parts of the sales process are transferred to the customer. Examples  are self-checkout and self-scanning.
Another area consuming a lot of time and expenses are related to the handling of cash. The longer the cash money stays in the store, the retailer is losing money. Modern cash management concepts are automating the handling of the cash, opening new ways how to work with the banks. Retailers can earn money with their cash.
